SOLO PIANO

Prelude (2013)
3 minutes.
"Prelude” evokes tranquility at the beginning, moving from a main melody to a new idea. Once the main melody returns, however, it assumes a much more sonorous quality. After the climactic cadence, a denoument brings the work to a quiet close.

Serenade (2012)
3 minutes.
Written during the summer of 2012 in Banff (CA), “Serenade” is a short character piece. The outer sections of its ternary form feature a simple, songlike melody with lightly syncopated accompaniment and occasional countermelodies. The contrasting middle section builds upon a three-note idea followed by a pause.

Impromptu (2014)
2.5 minutes.
A study in 2-against-3 rhythms, "Impromptu" engages in continuous development of its initial idea. This short work draws on pianistic idioms of Chopin and Faure.

Elegy (2014)
3.5 minutes.
A mournful main theme is set in stark contrast to a hymn-like middle section in the major mode. The main theme returns with a new countermelody, but a minor version of the central hymn has the last word.
